To Lead a Healthier Life, Consider These 5 New Year's Resolutions

Agar Hidup Lebih Sehat, Pertimbangkan 5 Resolusi Tahun Baru Ini

Entering the new year, there are certainly many things you want to do. Usually, the beginning of the year is filled with optimism and new enthusiasm. Everyone has goals they want to achieve in 2024. This could include new resolutions or old ones that are being repeated because they haven't been accomplished yet. So, how about your new year's resolutions, nicePeople?

If you are still confused about setting your 2024 resolutions, there are several you can take on, especially if you want to live a healthier life. Here are some healthy living resolutions you can pursue this year:

1.      Eat Healthy

Food choice is the most important thing to start living a healthy life. You can do it gradually, according to your ability. If you drastically overhaul your entire diet, it will certainly be difficult and make it hard for you to be consistent. Just try to start healthy eating habits like:

·        Drink water after waking up.

·        Eat breakfast every morning.

·        Meet your daily water intake, about 2 liters every day.

·        Add vegetables to every lunch and dinner.

·        Reduce the consumption of sugary drinks like milk coffee, packaged drinks, and soda.

·    Reduce the consumption of sugary foods such as cakes, cookies, ice cream, and other desserts.

·       Switch snacks to healthier options like fruits, vegetables, or gluten-free snacks.

·     Reduce consumption of processed foods like sausages, nuggets, packaged snacks, and other instant foods.

·     Start cooking yourself because you can choose healthy and appropriate ingredients for you instead of buying from outside.

You don't need to do everything at once. Try starting with one goal, then continue to the next goal. If it's difficult to do it alone, you can consult a nutritionist. Later, you will be helped to choose healthy food, manage a proper diet, and gain new understanding regarding food nutrition.

2.      Exercise Regularly

Losing weight is one of the most popular resolutions every new year. However, not everyone succeeds in achieving it even though it's already the end of the year. Building consistent exercise habits is indeed not easy, but you can start slowly. Just set low enough goals to be more realistic. For example, walking for 30 minutes at least 2 times a week. After one month, you can start increasing the exercise duration.

Of course, building exercise habits is different for everyone, depending on their own abilities and daily activities. For example, some people are more motivated when taking a specific exercise class or prefer exercising alone, like running. There are also those who enjoy doing core strength training to build muscle, such as weight training with barbells, push-ups, and sit-ups.

Whatever exercise choice you make, start with an easy one then increase it slowly. One of the best ways to motivate yourself is by setting small goals to achieve a larger goal. Who knows, maybe by the end of the year, you'll be able to exercise 4-5 times per week or walk at least 5,000 steps every day.

3.      Manage Stress and Prioritize Mental Health

In the new year, you need to reduce stress and face life more calmly. It might be difficult to take a break from various responsibilities, but you must start learning to manage stress. A healthy diet, regular exercise, relaxation, or counseling can help reduce stress. Other methods include deep breathing, meditation, yoga, mindfulness, and self-care.

Regarding self-care, personal care is an important part of stress management. This is not just about pampering yourself at a salon or going on an expensive vacation. Find activities that can increase your inner peace and tranquility. Choose activities that are best for you and then commit to doing them as a way to relieve stress.

Start prioritizing mental health this year. Avoid various things that trigger anxiety, mood swings, or depression. Try to be more mindful in living your days and don't easily overthink. If you feel that there are mental health issues that are starting to interfere with your life, you should consult an expert immediately.

4.      Work-Life Balance

Work-life balance is just as important as a new year's resolution. The impact of overworking can certainly trigger stress and burnout. So you need to manage your time so that there is balance in work and social relationships. Some things you should consider include:

·        Let go of perfectionism

·        Set boundaries regarding the amount of work and working hours

·        Start a self-care routine

·      Distance yourself from work-related communication outside of working hours, for example, from office calls or emails

If you feel you are in a toxic work environment and cannot change it, you can start looking for a new job. Jobs that trigger physical, psychological, or social relationship problems are certainly not worth keeping. This year might be the best time to replace that job.

5.      Get Enough Sleep

Getting enough sleep might be a simple thing, but not everyone can do it. If you were still often staying up late last year, then change this habit. Staying up late has many bad effects on physical and mental condition. For example, weight gain, weakened immune system, risk of mental health disorders, decreased concentration, and fatigue. So try to start getting enough sleep, about 7-8 hours every day. If you feel you have sleep disturbances or frequent insomnia, try consulting a doctor to get the right treatment.

So, which resolution do you want to start with? Whatever it is, find the easiest one for you to do so that you can be consistent. Happy working on your new year's resolutions, nicePeople!
