Tencel material is increasingly being used in the fashion industry because it has a myriad of attractions. This premium material is indeed known for being very comfortable for everyday clothing. This is because Tencel material has a texture that is soft on the skin, easily absorbs sweat, and can naturally adjust to temperature. In the clothing manufacturing process, one of the types of Tencel commonly used is TENCEL™ Modal. This material is also utilized in the making of napocut's inner collection, Core Comfort. To learn more about the advantages of Tencel Modal material, let's keep reading the review below!
Getting to Know TENCEL™ Modal
Tencel material is a type of rayon, similar to viscose. TENCEL™ is a trademark name given by the Austrian company, Lenzing AG, for the garment manufacturing process using lyocell and modal fibers. This eco-friendly material is made from trees such as eucalyptus.
Tencel production goes through a unique drying method called spinning using wood pulp. Manufacturers mix the wood pulp with a chemical solvent and then push it through an extruder to form wood cellulose fibers. Later, these fibers are used in garment manufacturing. The fibers are known to be very soft on the skin and smooth to the touch, so they are widely used by sustainable fashion brands that care about environmental conservation.
Lenzing has three premium sustainable brands under the TENCEL™ name: TENCEL™ Lyocell, TENCEL™ Modal, and TENCEL™ Lyocell Filament. TENCEL™ Modal is one of the most popular for creating soft fabrics for t-shirts, underwear, sportswear, pajamas, towels, and bed sheets. This eco-friendly fiber is made from European beech tree cellulose and is 100% biodegradable. TENCEL™ Modal material is often blended with other materials to increase its strength.

Advantages of TENCEL™ Modal
Napocut chose TENCEL™ Modal as the base material for the Core Comfort collection because of its various advantages, especially for innerwear and everyday clothing. Here are the main benefits of TENCEL™ Modal material:
- Derived from organic material, namely wood from sustainable forests.
- More environmentally friendly as it minimizes waste and uses safer solvents.
- Stronger, more flexible, and more durable than rayon material. Its fibers are very strong in both wet and dry conditions.
- Has better temperature regulation capabilities, making it comfortable for various weather conditions.
- Has good color absorption, so clothing colors and patterns do not fade easily.
- Provides a better sheen.
- Feels very soft and comfortable on the skin, even after repeated washing.
- Has antibacterial properties, resulting in better hygiene for fabric materials.
- Biodegradable and easy to recycle.
- Does not wrinkle easily.
- Able to absorb sweat and moisture, which results in anti-odor properties.
- Easy to care for.
Differences Between TENCEL™ Modal and Cotton
Cotton is also known as a breathable and comfortable natural fabric. However, TENCEL™ Modal is more durable, less prone to fading, and less likely to shrink compared to cotton material. This is because its fibers are longer than traditional cotton threads. Longer and stronger fibers make garments made of TENCEL™ Modal less likely to shrink when washed and more durable. TENCEL™ Modal material is also more absorbent than cotton, so you will stay dry when you sweat or get caught in the rain. Additionally, TENCEL™ Modal does not easily fade or pill over time like cotton. Garments look clean for longer.
Uses of TENCEL™ Modal Material
TENCEL™ Modal material is widely used to make garments with a soft texture such as t-shirts, underwear, and sportswear. Its smooth and lightweight fibers are certainly ideal for comfortable everyday wear. TENCEL™ Modal material also feels luxurious to the touch.
Napocut utilizes TENCEL™ Modal material for the Core Comfort collection. This inner collection prioritizes comfort for daily use. Therefore, TENCEL™ Modal material is an important part of this collection. Besides its soft and comfortable texture, TENCEL™ Modal also supports environmental sustainability, which is in line with naPocut's principles.
The Core Comfort collection has a variety of innerscarves (hijab inners) and garment inners. Within the innerscarves collection, there are updates for four existing products and two new products. The same applies to the reproduction of four garment inner products, culottes, and one new product. Reproduction for several products was carried out due to a change in their main material.
Here are some differences in the collection using the new material:
- Uses TENCEL™ Modal material
- More comfortable when worn
- Material is smoother than the previous production
- More flexible and shiny
It can be concluded that TENCEL™ Modal material has high-quality characteristics, is eco-friendly, and feels premium when worn.
