nicePeople, Eid is a moment of victory after completing a full month of fasting. However, without realizing it, some habits that are often practiced can actually diminish the blessings of this holy day. It would be a shame if a day that should be full of meaning turns into an occasion for wastefulness or showing off, right? Let's take a look at the habits we should avoid so that Eid remains full of blessings!
1. Excessive Food Preparation
Serving traditional Eid dishes is a tradition, but doing it excessively can lead to waste. In fact, Allah has warned in the Quran:
"Indeed, the wasteful are brothers of the devils, and ever has Satan been to his Lord ungrateful." (QS. Al-Isra: 27)
Instead, just cook enough ketupat and make use of the food from visiting family homes. If there is leftover food, it is better to give it as charity to those in need.
2. Choosing Vacations over Strengthening Ties
Many people prefer to go on vacation to malls or tourist attractions during Eid. As a result, traffic, parking difficulties, and exhaustion are unavoidable. Yet, Eid is the best time to strengthen ties with relatives. The Prophet ﷺ said:
"Whoever would like to have his provision expanded and his lifespan extended, let him maintain his ties of kinship." (HR. Bukhari & Muslim)
Instead of getting stuck on the road, it is better to use this moment to gather with family and strengthen the bond of brotherhood.
3. Asking Unnecessary Personal Questions
Eid often becomes an occasion for uncomfortable questions, such as "When are you getting married?", "When are you having kids?", or "Where do you work?". This habit can make others feel uncomfortable. The Prophet ﷺ taught us to guard our speech:
"It is enough of evil for a person to belittle his Muslim brother." (HR. Muslim)
Instead of asking things that might pressure others, it is better to have light conversations that create a cheerful and pleasant atmosphere.
4. Excessive Eid Attire
Many people feel they must wear new clothes for Eid, even changing outfits several times a day. Yet, simplicity is more important. Allah says:
"And be not excessive. Indeed, He likes not those who commit excess." (QS. Al-A'raf: 31)
A new prayer veil or old clothes that are still decent are enough; cleanliness and neatness are what matter, not just showing off. If you want to stay stylish without buying clothes that are only worn once, choose clothing with a timeless design like the 'A State of the Craft' collection from napocut. The material is comfortable and the style is elegant, suitable to be worn not only during Eid but also on various other occasions.
5. Forgetting the Essence of Eid
Do not let the euphoria of Eid distract us from its true meaning, which is a moment for mutual forgiveness and increasing worship. Instead of being busy with worldly matters, use the time for dhikr, giving charity, and increasing good deeds.
Eid is not just about celebration, but about how we maintain the blessings and spiritual meaning within it. Let's celebrate Eid more wisely and with more blessings! Of the five habits above, which one do you still do often, nicePeople?
